How measurement works
Runner World loads Google Analytics 4 only for requests that CloudFront identifies as originating in the United States. It measures readership and newsletter conversion with advertising storage, advertising user data, Google signals and advertising personalization disabled.
The Google tag is not loaded for requests identified as originating outside the United States, including the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Because optional analytics is not offered there, the site does not display a tracking-permission popup.
Necessary technology
Hosting, security and email-confirmation systems use request data and short-lived records necessary to deliver the requested service, resist abuse and remember subscription state. After a reader confirms a subscription, Runner World sets a secure, HttpOnly cookie named rw_newsletter_conversion for up to 15 minutes, scoped to /api/newsletter. It is consumed and cleared when the confirmation receipt is recorded and is not used for cross-site advertising.
Your controls
Browser controls can block or delete cookies, and Google provides an Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking optional analytics does not prevent reading Runner World. Questions may be sent to privacy@runner-world.com.
