Elite fields for this year’s Boston Marathon, which takes place on Monday 21 April, have been published. Calli Hauger-Thackery, Lily Partridge and Alex Milne will compete.
The Boston Athletic Association has published the elite fields for the Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America, which takes place on Monday 21 April. Headlining the respective fields are Hellen Obiri and Sisay Lemma, last year’s race winners.
Lemma is the fourth fastest marathon runner in history with a PB of 2:01:48, set in Valencia in 2023. He is one of five athletes in the elite men’s field to have run inside 2:04:00. Other notable entrants include 2024 Chicago Marathon winner John Korir (2:02:44), two-time Boston Marathon winner Evans Chebet (2:03:00) and reigning World Champion Victor Kiplangat (2:05:09).
Alex Milne, who ran 2:16:30 at the 2023 London Marathon, is the sole British entrant. He finished seventh at the World 100k Championships in India last month.
Triple Crown
Such is the depth of the women’s field, Hellen Obiri is only the thirteenth fastest entrant. However, on a course like Boston, fast times on flat courses count for little. She is looking to become the fifth woman to run the Boston Marathon three times in a row. “Defending a win is never easy, and to win the Boston Marathon twice in a row was hard, but I am happy to have done it. On race day I will again push for the win and hope to make it three in a row“, Obiri told the Boston Athletic Association.
Seven women entered have run inside 2:20:00, including Amane Beriso (2:14:58), Yalemzerf Yehualaw (2:16:52) and Irine Cheptai (2:17:51).
Calli Hauger-Thackery will make her Boston Marathon debut. However, she knows the city’s roads well, having run the Boston Half Marathon in November. In a stand out year, Calli improved her PB to 2:21:24 when finishing seventh at the Berlin Marathon, making her the second fastest British marathoner of all-time. She will be joined by fellow Brit Lily Partridge.
