Femke Bol will return to the London Diamond League on Saturday 19 July, organisers have announced. The Dutch hurdler will race at the Olympic Stadium for the third consecutive year. After making her debut in 2023 when she ran 51.45, she improved the 400m hurdles Meeting Record to 51.30 last year. That is the fastest time in Diamond League history. Those performances are the second and third fastest of her career. Only her European Record of 50.95, set in La Chaux-de-Fonds one week before London last year, is faster.
In a press release ahead of the event, Bol said:
“My first run in London in 2023 was a dream come true, and to go even quicker in 2024 was incredible, there is just something so special about competing in that stadium. I’ve been training well and I’m so motivated for the summer ahead. The thought of competing in the London Diamond League — which is one of my favourite races on the circuit — just gives me such a buzz. The last two years were magical and my performances gave me such a boost. I can’t wait to get back out there, to feel the energy from the crowd, and to leave it all on the track”.
Last year’s appearance in London was one of five Diamond League meetings Femke competed at, all of which she won:
- Stockholm (2 June): 53.07
- London (20 July): 51.30
- Lausanne (22 August): 52.25
- Silesia (25 August): 52.13
- Brussels (14 September): 52.45
She won bronze at the Olympic Games behind Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Anna Cockrell.
Femke will open her season at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday 25 May.
