Jessie Surette – HKRS – Dover Area, NH

How many seasons have you been a Community Coordinator?
I’ve been a coordinator for 3 seasons so far!
What inspired you to join HKRS?
I watched a running friend start another NH location and immediately took a screenshot. I kept it in the back of my mind until my son was old enough to run, and then I jumped right in!
What’s your favorite part of race day and/or what’s your proudest moment as a Community Coordinator?
My favorite part of race day is doing all of the warm-ups and starting all of our races. I love getting to interact with the kids in smaller groups and having a chance to get to know them a little bit, which is hard with a large series! Clapping, cheering, and offering high fives to the kids as they go is my second favorite
I am really proud that our series has grown so quickly. Our Sundays are filled with tons of running, kids on every inch of the playground, parents chatting, families cheering on their runners, fresh air, community, and a really positive environment for everyone!
What’s something you’ve learned, whether a skill, a mindset, or a new perspective, since becoming a Community Coordinator?
I’m a really big planner, and something I’ve learned is that you have to let go and learn on the fly sometimes. You can plan and brainstorm and make a million spreadsheets, but sometimes you just don’t know how things are going to play out until you try it. Then you can shift and adjust as needed.
If you could bring one guest to a race day, real or fictional, who would it be and why?
I would bring Ali Feller/Ali on the Run. (Who could probably really go to an NH race!) She is a running podcaster who works as an announcer at finish lines from local 5Ks to the major marathons in Boston, NYC, and Chicago. She is SO positive and motivational and would definitely make the kids feel that positivity as they crossed the finish line.
